Ingvi Palmi Gretar
October 13, 1922 - August 31, 2021
Ingvi Palmi Gretar, 98 years young, of Berea, Ohio passed away on August 31, 2021. He was born on October 13, 1922 on the Artic Circle in Iceland to the late Johannes and Soffia (Junsdottir) Jonsson. After his mother passed away at a young age, Ingvi was taken in by a Lutheran minister and his wife in Northern Iceland. Eventually he went on to live with his aunt who was a school teacher until her passing before being placed with a distant relative on a farm. His ticket to the United States of America came in the form of a full academic college scholarship to Berea College in Berea, Kentucky. It is there he earned a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting. Following college, he was hired by General Motors as the head of the payroll department for General Motors. Ingvi held that position for over 35 years. He is reunited with his long-time companion Greta Trenka of 30 years; he was a dear father-figure to Lisa Trenka; dear grandpa to Brandon and Rachel Willaman. He is preceded in death by his wife Betty; children Eric and Gayle; and his many siblings that have lived and passed in Iceland. Please be in prayer and reflection as the family will privately lay Ingvi to rest at Sunset Memorial Park. Online condolences and memories may be left on Ingvi memorial page at sunsetfuneralandcemtery.com.
