John Lynn Skinner

JOHN L. SKINNER, Age 81, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by loved ones, on February 13, 2022. His beloved family include his wife Angela (Dramis), his loving and caring children Susan Skinner-Kidd (Paul); Debra McKitrick (Timothy); Thomas Skinner, (Magdalena); his precious grandchildren are Nathaniel Kidd, Elena Skinner, Justin McKitrick, and John Thomas Skinner. He also leaves his dear brother Douglas Skinner, of Texas; and many nieces and nephews, and cousins.He was pre-deceased by his mother, Cora Kent- Skinner; Father, Thomas G. Skinner, sister Janet L. Beck, and sister Carol Ann Hixon (Paul). John was a dedicated science and computer teacher for Bay Village Middle School for 33 years. He also very much enjoyed coaching Bay Village soccer teams, aiding in their 1991 and 1993 state championships, and being inducted into the Bay High Soccer Hall of Fame in 2009. He also coached track and field. He was an accomplished teacher as he he was chosen as a Jennings Foundation Scholar and received the Superintendent’s BEST AWARD, given to him because his students voted him a BEST teacher. He served The Bay Teachers’ Association for several years, including being the President. After retiring from teaching, he worked for the Cleveland Scholarship Program, helping high school students in their pursuit of finding aid to attend colleges. John was also very active in his church, St. Innocent Orthodox Church, Usher Road, Olmsted Township. As a founding member, he worked diligently as a church officer, a great volunteer in many charitable events, and especially the church sponsored monthly Community Meal and Produce Distribution He actively worked in helping St. Herman’s House of Hospitality, in Cleveland. He was an active member of the InterOrthodox Council of Greater Cleveland for more than 35 years. John and Angela loved that they could travel to many wonderful locations around the world. He loved all sports, especially soccer, golf, football, and baseball. The family will receive friends at St. Innocent Orthodox Church on Wednesday, Feb. 16, 2022 from 4-8 PM with a memorial service at 7:30 PM. The funeral service will take place on Thursday, Feb. 17, 2022, at 10:00 AM at the church. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Park, following the funeral service.
