Albert John Juhasz's Obituary
Albert John Juhasz, PhD, age 87, entered into rest on January 11, 2024. He was born on December 21st, 1936 in Szekszard, Hungary. After fleeing to Germany to escape communism at the end of World War II, his family emigrated to the US in 1951. Al earned a bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Case Western Reserve in 1960, followed by a master’s degree from the University of Toledo in 1968. He started work on a PhD, but set that effort aside to devote more time to his growing family. Al had a lifelong passion and natural aptitude for mathematics and engineering. He started a distinguished career at NASA in 1963, where his expertise helped to put the first man on the moon. His career as a Thermodynamicist and Space Power & Propulsion engineer spanned more than 60 years. In 2005, at the age of 68, having successfully guided his four children to adulthood, he completed his doctoral dissertation and was awarded a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from Cleveland State University. Al balanced his technical abilities with a love of language and culture. He was fluent in 4 languages (Hungarian, German, English & Latin) and enjoyed classical music, films and reciting poetry.
Al was married to his childhood sweetheart, Gerda Maria Koenig, for 49 years until her passing in June of 2012. He was a devoted and loving father to Nikola Juhasz (Michael Vogeley), Annette Bergeon (Christopher), Christina Juhasz (Carl DiPaolo) and Markus Juhasz (Christine Sowinski), cherished grandfather to Gabriela (Robert Bagdon, Sr.), Raphael, Andrew, Matthew, Olivia, and Miriam and adored great-grandfather to Bobby Jr. and Gianna. He is also survived by his beloved younger brothers Mark and John Juhasz.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, January 27th at St. Richard Church, 26855 Lorain Rd., North Olmsted followed by a luncheon at the Grand Pacific Junction Hotel at 8112 Columbia Rd., Olmsted Falls.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Donauschwaben German American Cultural Center at 7370 Columbia Rd, Olmsted Township, OH, 44138.
