Alex Szathmary's Obituary
Alex Sandor Szathmary, 92, of Strongsville, Ohio passed away peacefully on August 16, 2022. He was born on June 22, 1930 in Hungary to the late Jozsef and Gizella (nee Nagy) Szathmary.
Alex served in the Hungarian Air Force, and was a Freedom Fighter in the 1956 Hungarian Revolution, before immigrating to the United States. He retired from Chrysler where he excelled in tool and die fabrication. Beyond his job, Alex used his creative skill set in carpentry, building, and remodeling. He will be fondly remembered as a loving family man who taught his children the importance of hard work and life skills such as biking, swimming, and skating. In his later years, he found great joy in tending to animals around his home, especially birds and squirrels.
Beloved husband of Elizabeth (nee Hagymasi) Szathmary (deceased); loving father of Dr. Eva Szathmary (Peter Tapolyai) and Dr. Zoltan Szathmary (Dr. Kayal Natarajan); cherished grandfather of Andras Juhasz; and dear brother of Jozsef (deceased), Laszlo (deceased), and Gizella Tarsoly. Visitation will be held on Saturday, August 27, 2022 from 10 AM-12 PM with a service following at 12 PM at Sunset Chapel, 6245 Columbia Road, North Olmsted, Ohio 44070. Interment will follow at Sunset Cemetery. Donations may be made in Alex’s memory to St. Jude’s online at stjude.org/donate.
