I grew up at Calvary United Methodist Church although it was EUB at that time. While I didn't know Al very well myself, my parents Bob and Violet Lorbach did and spoke of him often. They admired him in so many ways but mostly for his commitment to his family and the church. I do remember that he was quiet, steady and always present doing whatever needed to be done. I watched the memorial service and learned more about his professional life than I knew. What an accomplished life he led and for a man with his "head in the stars" what a down to earth legacy he left.

We will always remember our brother and uncle with fond memories of our gathering together as only family can do. The stories of the family farm, his career, his travels and his sharp mind until the day he was taken from us will remain with us forever. Sitting in our living room and chomping on the nuts on our coffee table was a special moment to enjoy, knowing he loved healthy things. Our prayers are with all of you his children who are continuing the legacy of Alvin Hahn, by being yourself and living life to the fullest as your father taught you to do. We have all learned from him in many special ways.

Al had an office across the corridor from mine in DEB. I remember his fondly for his dedicated and unassuming service at NASA. He was a really good guy.
