Barbara Kern's Obituary
Barbara Kern, 85, of Fairview Park, went to her Eternal Home on Sunday, August 6, 2023. She was born on July 2, 1938, in Zelienople, Pennsylvania to the late Charles Henry and Ada (nee Cummings) Beck.
Barbara was a caring woman with a kind heart who loved to help everyone. She spent most of her life volunteering with numerous organizations and caregiving for her family. She worked for Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance, retiring from the insurance business after 30 years. She joined the Brandywine Ski Patrol in 1977 and retired in 2008, where she worked as Patrol Director from 1990-1992. She enjoyed skiing more than anything. Barbara had the opportunity to travel all over the world, including Russia, Ireland, Alaska, and frequently out west to various ski resort towns. She was actively involved in her community in various ways. She volunteered at Fairview Meals on Wheels for over 10 years, serving as Director for 6 of those years. When her children were in school, she was active in the Fairview PTA. In the 1970-80's she spent a lot of time with the Junior Women’s Club. We will remember her for her strong independence and loving spirit.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Kenneth Kern; and granddaughter, Devon Kern.
She is survived by her son, Douglas (Katy) Kern; her loving daughter, Laura (Craig) Fletcher; grandchildren, Kelsey, Tyler, Michael, and Grayson; and other extended family members and friends.
A Visitation will be held Tuesday, August 15, 2023 from 2:00PM to 4:00PM at Sunset Chapel, 6245 Columbia Road, North Olmsted, OH 44070. A Funeral Service will follow beginning at 4:00PM. Her final resting place will be at Sunset Cemetery in North Olmsted, OH.
