Barbara Mary Leonard-Kocsmaros' Obituary
Barbara Mary Leonard-Kocsmaros (nee Bender), age 86, passed away peacefully on May 17, 2025. Born on January 10, 1939, to the late Leo T. and Rosemary Bender, Barbara lived a life defined by compassion, strength, and unwavering devotion to her family.
Barbara was the beloved wife of Michael Kocsmaros, with whom she shared many cherished years. She is preceded in death by first husband, Dennis Leonard of 27 years, and raised five children: Cynthia (Jeffrey) Leonard-Krinsky, Barbara (Larry) Doyle, Cathy (Robert) DeCoske, Dennis (Michele) Leonard, and John Leonard. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Natasha Krinsky, Alexandra (Vince) Krinsky - Popolizio, Cynthia (Grant) Johannessen, Kate Washburn, Stephanie (James) Agee, Adam DeCoske, and McKayla Leonard. She was also great-grandmother of Emma, Carrie, Lucy, and Camille Washburn, Henry Agee, and Audrey Johannessen who brought her immense joy and pride. Cherished sister of Leo (deceased) (Judy) Bender, David (deceased) (Marjorie) Bender, Mary (deceased) (Anthony) Hilinski, Rosemary (deceased) (Sam) Magee, Margaret Bender (deceased), Joe (deceased) (Rosemary) Bender, Anne (Tom) Behrend, Arthur (Marianne) Bender, and Tom (Lynn) Bender. Her deep bonds with her family were a cornerstone of her life.
Barbara had a long nursing career and was also a pilot, church choir member, girl scout leader, camp nurse and a member of the Cleveland Hiking club. She enjoyed the outdoors her entire life. Her warmth and enduring kindness touched all who knew her. She will be remembered for her gentle heart, her generous spirit, and the love she gave so freely. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Barbara’s name to Lake Erie Girl Scout Council or Lake Erie Nature and Science Center.
A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, May 22, 2025, at 10 AM at St. Angela Church, 20970 Lorain Road, Cleveland, OH 44126.
