Betty Joyce Martin's Obituary
Betty Joyce Martin (née Looney), age 76, passed away on February 5, 2026, in Olmsted Falls, Ohio, after a long and courageous battle with metastatic breast cancer. She faced her journey with remarkable strength, resilience, and grace.
She was preceded in death by her father, Paul Looney.
Joyce is survived by her beloved mother, Margaret; her sister, Terrie; her nephew, Michael (Niki); her niece, Amanda (Miguel); her great-nieces, Maddie and Kaiya; her great-nephew, Joey; her aunts, Maebell, Christine, and Linda Ann; and her uncle, Robert—all of whom held a special place in her heart.
Family was everything to Joyce. Throughout her life, she made countless sacrifices to ensure her family had anything and everything she could possibly provide. She was fiercely loyal and deeply devoted to her mother, caring for her with unwavering love and dedication.
Joyce had a lifelong passion for travel and spent many years exploring new places with friends and family. Of all her travels, her favorite destination was Cades Cove in the Great Smoky Mountains, where she found peace. She cherished the many adventures shared with her cousins in Alabama before moving to Ohio in the late 1950s. A devoted Crimson Tide supporter her entire life, Joyce proudly lived by the motto—Roll Tide.
She loved country music and line dancing. Music brought her joy, and George Strait was her guy.
Joyce dedicated 45 years of service to American Greetings, retiring in 2015. During her career, she formed many meaningful friendships that became just as important to her as the work itself. Those relationships and shared experiences remained a lasting source of joy and strength throughout her life.
She was also blessed with a cherished friendship with Sandie, her dearest friend, who shared in many happy travels and memories and stood faithfully beside her throughout her illness. Their bond was one of deep friendship, loyalty, and support.
Following the loss of her father more than forty years ago, Joyce became a steady force and guiding voice for her family. Strong-willed and determined, she led with love and faithfully held her family together.
Her legacy is one of selflessness, loyalty, devotion, and love—especially for her family, who were always her greatest priority.
