Beverly Kay McComb-Davies' Obituary
Beverly Kay McComb-Davies (Kihle, Steiner) traveled peacefully Somewhere Over the Rainbow into her Heavenly Father’s arms on Thursday, June 21 at 8:24 a.m., surrounded by four generations of loved ones. Since her terminal diagnosis of Pulmonary Fibrosis on May 29th through her hospice stay and her final days at home, she never lost her positivity and sarcastic sense of humor. Her indomitable grace and courage touched everyone with whom she interacted.
Beverly was born on November 5, 1943 in Seattle, Washington to Sidney and Catherine Kihle (Grumney). She graduated from Cuyahoga Falls High School in 1961. She attended Mount Vernon Bible College where she met Marion Steiner, married in 1962 and had three children. In 1972, she married Ralph McComb and had her fourth child. In 1987, she married Harold (Butch) Davies. Her early work career included Christian ministry, administrative assistant positions, and caregiver at a state hospital. She earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work from Cedarville College (OH) in 1993 and a Master’s Degree in Social Work from the University of South Carolina in 1997. She concluded her work career in South Carolina as a nursing home surveyor and a hospice social worker. In 2010 she retired and returned home to help care for her ailing father. Her remaining life she spent in Columbia Station, OH.
Beverly is preceded in death by her parents, step-mother Dorothy Kihle, her husbands Ralph and Butch, her stepson Ed McComb, and her best friend of 40 years, Patty Snyder. She is survived by her siblings, Nancy Kihle (Palatine, IL); and Jan Kihle (Columbia Station, OH); her children Jeffrey Steiner (Laura), Ogden IL; Jennifer Seidle (Donald), Mercer PA; Jodi Offutt (Tom); Doylesburg PA; John McComb (Meghan), Tucson AZ; step-children Alice Bryan (McComb of Mt Vernon, OH,), Anne, David, and Shari Davies (Youngstown, OH). She had fifteen grandchildren and step-grandchildren; Catherine Lang (Tim), Kayla Coryea (Tim), Donald Seidle (Courtney), Paul Wilson, Leah Offutt (Logan), Jordan Wright (David), Anthony Steiner, Aidan Steiner, Caroline McComb, Jacob McComb, Nate Cremeens (Sarah Parker), Alex Cremeens, Jordan Offutt, Tucker Offutt, and Heather Hoopes (Adam). She has twenty great-grandchildren: Owen, Katelynn, Olivia, Ella, Noah, Emersyn, Caleb, Nora, Cole, Hazel, Isaiah, Dean, Willow, Maya, Allie, Christian, Garrett, Greyson, Madison, and Ethan. She also had a special bond with family friend Lynn Witmer (Slater), husband Rick, and children Derrick and Sophie.
Beverly was one of the most influential women of our family. She was a prayerful woman whose calming presence and therapeutic hugs touched everyone. Her great-grandchildren called her “Grammie Mints” and “Grammie Bear” lovingly because of her mint and teddy bear obsession. She was a shining disciple of unconditional Christian love and forgiveness without judgement. This was no more evident than during her final days when she continued to uplift her caregivers and other hospice patients through her ministry despite her condition.
We will celebrate Beverly’s life at Sunset Memorial Park Chapel, 6245 Columbia Rd, North Olmsted, OH 44070 on Saturday, July 7th. Visitation with family begins at 1 p.m. with a service following at 2 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice Services of Southwest General, 18659 Drake Rd, Strongsville, OH 44136.
