Carl Ray was my first cousin and I have many, many fond memories of being with his parents, Aunt Lillian and Uncle Charles, who always treated us children so well. I remember how much they loved Carl Ray and his sister, Shirley Ann, and their grandchildren. I also remember how nice and kind Carl Ray was to me and my family. We loved visiting him and his family. Until we meet again..,
It is Saturday Dec 22 at 10:00am. Carl Ray's funeral is about to start and I am writing this now as we can not be there due to the storm across the lakes last night and today. One of my most memorable times with Carl Ray was many years ago when he came to Connecticut to visit and he and my Dad went out into Long Island Sound in a canoe. They were not supposed to cross the inlet boundary but Carl Ray always had a larger than life approach to things as I remember. Before they got back, the canoe overturned and they had to paddle alongside the canoe to get back to shore. It was a good thing the tide was coming in! Dad remembers that Carl Ray lost his hat and Carl Ray remembers as he told me at the Haddox reunion 2 years ago that Dad lost his hat. So I guess we will never know whose hat was lost, but the important thing is the memories we hold of years past. We missed the last Haddox reunion but will be there for the next this coming summer. Time marches on but sometimes it gallops also. My prayers are with all the family at this time. Dick.
