Carol Brediger's Obituary
Carol Batten Newby was born December 22, 1920. She became a “Christmas Carol” as she was born a few days before Christmas. Her parents Harry and Olive raised Carol and her older sister, Jean, in the West 54th Street and Lorain Road area of Cleveland. The two sisters were best friends and remained that way their entire lives.
Carol graduated from West High School in 1938 and continued her education at Baldwin Wallace College. While at BW she met Donald Joseph Brediger from Massillon, Ohio. They dated for almost 4 years and on the day after Carol graduated with a degree in business they were married on June 6, 1943. Donald enlisted in the Army and was stationed in Washington DC and Carol joined him and worked for the Red Cross.
They had three children. Gary was born in 1944, Jean and John were born in 1947. At the time they were the second largest set of twins ever born in Cuyahoga County. Eventually they moved to North Olmsted where they lived for over 50 years. Daughter-in-laws Terry and Patty were added to the family, Donald and Carol joined Avon Oaks Country Club and spent many years golfing and socializing at Avon.
Carol’s happiest years were spent as a grandma. Kris, Michael, Tim, and Geoff were the “apples of her eyes,” and she loved being around them. Christmases, birthdays, and barbecues with the Barnies were special times.
Randy, Katie, and Amy married into the family and soon Carol would become a great grandmother as Jake, Ava, Luke, Ally, and Ryan were born. While in the nursing home, Carol enjoyed seeing pictures of and hearing about her grandchildren’s and great grandchildren’s activities.
She will be privately laid to rest at Sunset Cemetery in North Olmsted, Ohio.
