Carol Ann De Witt's Obituary
Carol Ann De Witt, 84, of Berea, Ohio, passed away peacefully on November 2, 2025, with her favorite music playing and the love of her devoted daughter and Vinny surrounding her.
Carol was born March 30, 1941 in Shiloh, Ohio to Cecile and Alfred James. She graduated from Olmsted Falls High School in 1959. After graduating from high school, Carol was the first in her family to attend college. She graduated from Bowling Green University with a degree in Early Childhood Education. After graduation, she moved to Berea, Ohio and began working for the Berea City School District teaching 3rd Grade at Riveredge Elementary. She loved all of her students throughout the years and each student held a special place in her heart. She always wished she could have had a reunion with her former students to see and hear how they grew up. Carol retired from Fairwood Elementary after teaching 3rd Grade for 35 years.
Carol met her soulmate, Carl De Witt in 1964. Carl and her lived in the same apartment complex on Prospect. They walked to their first date at the Berea Movie Theater where they saw Mary Poppins. Carol and Carl got married in 1967 during a severe snowstorm. They went on many trips but her favorite trip was when her husband took her to Hawaii on their honeymoon. Carol enjoyed spending her summers with her family at her trailer on Catawba Island. She loved going to the Lake Erie Islands and listening to live music. She followed many local bands and loved to dance. One of her favorite local bands was Ron Howard and the Band Cruisin’. Carol was a lover of animals. She loved having pets and enjoyed helping animals out in any way she could. She loved her family, friends and being around people. She had a kind, compassionate and gentle soul. A very loved woman who was always smiling, had an infectious laugh and always had a great time.
Carol is survived by her daughter Megan De Witt of Cleveland, OH; Vinny Cervellino of Cleveland, OH; and her fur babies Bob Marley & Elvis Presley of Berea, OH. She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl De Witt, her parents, Cecile and Alfred James, and her siblings Marge Dawson, Luella Perrin, Kathleen Daup, Jimmy James, and Richard James.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday November 12, 2025 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM at Sunset Chapel, 6245 Columbia Rd, North Olmsted, Ohio 44070, with a funeral service to immediately follow at the chapel at 2:00 PM.
