Cecil "Ray" Worthington's Obituary
Cecil “Ray” Worthington, Jr, age 84, passed away peacefully on February 15, 2016. He was born on January 6, 1932, in Greenville, TN, to Cecil and Velma (nee Waddell) Worthington and was raised with his 3 siblings.
Ray spent his childhood and young adulthood in Tennessee before joining the United States Army in April of 1950. He proudly served in Germany during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in July of 1953 as a Disabled American Veteran.
After returning home from Germany, Ray was introduced to the love of his life, Martha, by her brother Earl. The two were married in 1954 and moved to Cleveland to raise their children. Ray spent over 32 years employed by Ford Motor Company before retiring on December 31, 1984. After retirement, he and Martha moved to Lehigh, FL, where they resided for the next 30 years.
Ray was very active in the John W. Barkley Mason Lodge No. 0621 and was a member of the Scottish Rite. He was a proud member of UAW Local 1250. He also enjoyed a deep passion for cars and NASCAR racing and loved his Tennessee Vols.
Beloved husband of over 57 years to his wife Martha, who predeceased him on March 16, 2011; loving father to Traci (Michael) Muchowski and the late Roger, Debra and Randall; cherished grandfather to Randy, Rhiannon, Leanna, Dale, Cassidy and Gabriella; devoted great-grandfather to Adalyn, Piper and Kynslee; dear brother to Violet, James and Judith (all deceased); brother-in-law to Linda Lingo and Bob Anderson; and uncle to many nieces and nephews. Ray will also be missed by all of his four-legged friends – he cared for animals tremendously throughout his lifetime.
Memorial Service and Life Celebration will be held at a later date.
