Christine Dolores Seydlitz (nee Sliwinski)'s Obituary
Christine Seydlitz (nee Sliwinski), passed away peacefully on October 25, 2024, surrounded by the
loving care of her family, the devoted staff, nurses and aides from Haven at Lakewood and the
Hospice of Western Reserve in her room filled with soft classical music and her art.
Born November 19, 1930, Gdenia, Poland. She escaped Poland during WWII with her mother and
came to the United States in 1940. Daughter of Major Stefan Sliwinski and Elizabeth (nee Lodzieski);
granddaughter of Stefan & Victoria Lodzieski, Founder of the Lakewood Bakery Company. She met
and later married her husband, Walter Seydlitz, when she traveled back to Poznan, Poland. She is
survived by her children: John and Julia Falchi (nee Seydlitz) and grandchildren: Henry Seydlitz and
Maks Falchi.
Christine was an artist through and through. She lived life in technicolor and saw beauty and a color
wheel in almost everything and everyone. Aside from her family, her heart and soul were committed
to the arts and her community, especially to those underserved.
After graduating from Lakewood High School, she attended Columbia University in New York City,
and received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Case Western Reserve University in 1954, where
she was a member of Sigma Psi sorority.
Christine’s career included: Artistic Director, American Bakeries, Chicago, Illinois. Lead Designer,
Brook Park Incorporated; Advertising Intake Secretary, Youth Bureau of Cleveland; Staff Artist and
Designer, Cuyahoga County Library System; Artistic Director, Main Line, Cleveland; Office Assistant,
Robert Page Singers; Artist, Exhibitor & Teacher, Beck Center for the Arts; Executive Director,
Broadway School of Music & the Arts.
Her community & volunteer work included: PTA President, McKinley Elementary School; Board
Member, Young Women’s Christian Association; Women’s Committee, Westshore Concerts;
Member, Lakewood Arts Council; Program Chairman, Southeast Kiwanis Club; Ohio Arts Council,
Friends of Cleveland School of the Arts; Cleveland Institute of Art, Polish Constitution Day, Parades
and Programs; Polish Arts Club & Polish Women’s Club, Greater Cleveland; Board Member, League
of Women’s Voters, Westlake, Ohio.
Her art can be found across the country in private collections and locally throughout Cleveland
where she was commissioned by companies, organizations, and schools to create large scale paintings
and murals.
