Constance Joyce Bishop's Obituary
Constance Joyce Bishop (nee Long) born May 4, 1931, to Robert F. and Charlotte I Long (both deceased), in Altoona, Pennsylvania. Constance was born into eternal life on November 29, 2019, of natural causes and joined God, peacefully in her sleep in Westlake, Ohio.
Constance was married to the love of her life, and best friend, Peter J Bishop (deceased) and the father of her children David Calandra (deceased).
She was the mother of David Calandra (Linda) AZ; Jan Brezina WI; Barbara Buccino (deceased) (Sal) OH; Christine Melcher (John) OH. Her children will have a multitude of memories for all the adventures and things they shared with her together and independently.
She was blessed with her siblings Robert Long (deceased) and Janet Chernauskas (Larry). Connie and Janet were affectionally know as the “Long sisters”, and they had a close bond, and shared incredible moments together.
She is further survived by eleven grandchildren, Zack Calandra AZ; Brian Peterson (Becky) NJ; Phil Peterson (significant other Holly Bruckner) PA; Jason Calandra (Shannon) AZ, Joseph Brezina (Teresa) WI; Damon Calandra (AZ) Barbara Kuri, OH; Erin Calandra-Witmer (Bill) PA; Brian Melcher (Beth) OH, Joshua Melcher, OH; Johnny Melcher (significant other Annie Chrysler) OH. There was a special place in Connie’s heart for each of her grandchildren, whether she was known as CJ, grandma, grandma’ma’ or simply gram, that love and light of those special times and memories of her will stay locked in their hearts.
Somewhere along the way, she must have told us to go forward and be fruitful; there are twenty surviving great grandchildren she was blessed to have met in her life journey, to hold and love. She is further survived by nieces and nephews, cousins and friends, many of whom were able to be near her to visit and read to her over the last fourteen months while she was in her residency at Rae-Ann Suburban. A heartfelt thanks to all your love you shared with her.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the team of caregivers from Hospice of the Western Reserve. They were with her every step of the way, offering their services to ease with the transition of skilled nursing care, her blindness that left her so frustrated, and sad, having a reader, a companion be available for her, audio books, being there as our eyes and ears when were not able to be by her side, you are what she referred to as “her angels”. Thank you for your care and support.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, December 15, 2019 at 1:00 PM in the Chapel at Sunset Memorial Park, 6245 Columbia Rd. North Olmsted; where the family will receive friends from 12:30 PM until the time of service.
