David Edward French's Obituary
David Edward French, 81 of Olmsted Township, Ohio passed away peacefully on March 15, 2025 surrounded by his family. Dave was born on July 18, 1943 in Cleveland Ohio to the late Robert and Helen French.
He grew up on the west side of Cleveland where he made many friendships that continued into his adult life. Dave attended Willard Elementary, West High and the Westside Institute of
Technology.
Dave was a man of many professions. He was a knowledge enthusiast and loved to watch Jeopardy. His wisdom and advice will be remembered and also greatly missed by his loved ones. Dave was an outdoorsman throughout his life. In his younger years he enjoyed hunting, and during his later years enjoyed camping and often casting a fishing line into the many beautiful lakes of the Ohio parks.
He enjoyed reading and watching old movies. Sherlock Holmes, Charlie Chan, Lord of the Rings, The Hobbit, Sci-Fi, B-Rated and the Classics were some of his favorites. Any version of the Christmas Carol ever made could be seen playing on his television any time throughout the year. Also, a yearly family favorite was the Wizard of Oz, flawlessly reciting every memorized line from beginning to end. Dave and his wife Joyce of 61 years would often take long drives together, ending up at the park to feed the squirrels or cruising the back roads of Amish country. He was a lover of all animals small and large alike.
Dave immensely enjoyed spending time with his family whether it was at a family cookout, holiday get together or travelling with them. Some of his favorite destinations included; California, Mexico, Punta Cana, Las Vegas and a Cross Country RV road trip were just a few highlights. He also enjoyed watching his
Cleveland Browns, occasionally cheering them on with a few poetic and colorful
words. Rumor has it, a shoe or two were lost in a television screen.
He was steadfast in his convictions, witty and protective of his family. David is preceded in death by his parents, brother Robert (Dan) French, Sister’s Shirley Lewis, Barbara Russo and Great grandson Connor French.
He is survived by his wife Eileen (Joyce). Devoted Father to David (Andrea), Carrie (John), Jason and Jennifer (Steve). Beloved Grandfather to 11, Lindsey, Jaime, Adam, Megan, Devin, Dustin, Corrine, Demi, Emily, Dylan and Francis. Loving Great Grandfather to 7, Brody, Hope, Carter, Marleigh, Miles, Steven and Tessa. Cherished Uncle to many Nieces and Nephews.
Christian Mass to be held Monday March 31st, 10:00am at St. Colette Catholic Church 330 West 130th Street Brunswick, Ohio 44212
A Celebration of Life will follow at Stancato’s Restaurant 7380 State Rd, Parma,
OH 44134, from 12:00-3:00pm
