I am so sorry to hear that Dave passed away. He was my next door neighbor on Lewis drive growing up.
I remember going to his house almost every day and hollaring " oooh David" We played pitch and catch for hours. No pitch limit back in the day. He was a quiet unassuming friend.
He was perhaps one of the best natural athletes i knew. Little know fact . He was the star of our churches basketball team which included Greg Ray, Jay Hanser, Brad Johnson, Larry Johnson Dave and myself. Leaguer rules were only 3 nonmembers of the church on the team.. So Brad Johnson joined the church. Senior year we won the city title.
We would sit together in church in the balcony. There was a mom and pop store on the corner by church. Many times we snuck out of church and used our church offering for candy.
He was a great guy. Rest in peace my friend!

I am so sorry to hear Dave passed away. I, too, am a neighbor and former classmate of Dave’s. I always enjoyed chatting with him when we were out working in our yards. We would have long chats about so many subjects. Great conversations!! He always had a smile on his face. RIP my friend. You will be really missed. Mary Simon, Lakewood, OH.

My older cousin David taught me many valuable lessons that were useful in life-how to shoot a layup in basketball; how to field a fly ball; and how to tie a proper sailor’s knot. He also encouraged me to participate in CYO sports (basketball and softball) at SS Cyril&Methodius school. David had a great sense of humor and enjoyed regaling tall tales of the family’s history. Condolences to all of David’s family and friends. RIP cousin David.

My deepest sympathy to Joyce and Craig and their families. My childhood was filled with "instant playmates" since my family lived above my cousins in the double house in Lakewood. We would spend time playing baseball in the backyard, playing basketball on our court "a basketball key painted on our driveway" and playing "hide-n-seek" in the basement. My grade school girlfriends always wanted to come to my house after school hoping that David and his friends would be playing basketball in the backyard (they all had crushes on David and his friends). When I was in high school at Lakewood High, I would often be asked if I was related to David Heller- since he was two years older than me and he was active in sports at the high school. As an adult, David would walk "everywhere"- he would often walk from his house on Lakeland to the house on Lewis to visit his mom. I would see him walking all through Lakewood. If he disagreed with what the city of Lakewood was doing at Kaufman park or in his neighborhood- he told me that he would often call city hall or appear at council meetings to express ..his opinions.
