Dave Merrill's Obituary
David Lee Merrill, 76, of Avon Lake, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, August 15, 2023. He was born November 25, 1946, in Lebanon, Indiana, to the late Meredith James and Mary Margaret (nee Louks) Merrill. He proudly served his country in the United States Army. Dave graduated from Purdue University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering. He retired from Clark Reliance in Strongsville, Ohio.
Dave was an outdoorsman who was very active, enjoying fishing, bowling, and golfing. He was a kindhearted man who was soft-spoken, but never knew a stranger, especially on his daily walks with dog, Riley, in the neighborhood. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. More than anything, he loved spending time with his grandsons. He was always very involved with them, attending their sporting events, concerts, and even participating in their Cub and Boy Scout activities. You could find Dave often watching any Cleveland sports team, or March Madness basketball.
He leaves behind a loving family to cherish his memory, including his wife of 23 years, Nancy Merrill; daughter, Christina (Vince) Mars; grandsons, Jacob and Benjamin Mars; sister, Donna (John) Shank; numerous nieces and nephews; and other extended family members and friends.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to John Knox Presbyterian Church or Hospice of the Western Reserve in Dave’s memory.
Family and Friends may gather on Saturday, August 19, 2023 from 9:00AM to 11:00AM at Sunset Chapel, 6245 Columbia Road, North Olmsted, Ohio 44070. At 11:00AM, Pastor Tom MacMillian will officiate a funeral service, followed by a reception at Sunset Chapel.
