Dawn Shirley Hailey's Obituary
Dawn Shirley Hailey, age 87, of North Olmsted, Ohio, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2025. Born on May 18, 1938, to the late Jack and Esther Rocks, Dawn led a life defined by dedication, grace, and deep compassion for others.
Dawn graduated from Marshall High School in 1956, where she excelled in Girls Athletics as a member of the All-Star Basketball team, earning her a letter for being a significant member of the team. Dawn also excelled in art, becoming the secretary of the Art Club. She carried her love of art throughout her life.
Dawn deeply valued nature and the sanctity of all life, a passion likely sparked during her time in Albuquerque with her mother and stepfather. She was a great admirer of the American Western Indians beliefs and traditions. One of the best museum trips with Dawn was to “Art of the American Indians” at the Cleveland Museum Art.
A consummate professional, Dawn built a remarkable career as an Executive Assistant, beginning her journey at Goodyear and later devoting 25+ years to Sherwin-Williams. She was admired for her attention to detail, steadfast work ethic, and unshakeable loyalty to those she served.
Dawn’s warmth and quiet strength were a constant comfort to her many dear friends, including Pam Regula, April Howell, Monica Mackin, and the beloved ladies from her coffee group—a circle of friendship that brought her joy and laughter over countless Monday mornings.
An animal lover at heart, Dawn had a special place in her soul for dogs, and her home was always open to the companionship of four-legged friends.
Her kindness, dry wit, and loving spirit left a lasting imprint on all who knew her. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.
She was preceded in death by her cherished long-time partner, Jerry Barbato, whom she loved deeply until his passing in 2012.
Funeral Service will be held at Sunset Memorial Chapel, 6245 Columbia Road, North Olmsted, Ohio 44070 on Monday, July 14, 2025 at 4:00 p.m. with visitation to follow until 8:00 p.m. Dawn will be cremated after her services and laid to rest privately at Sunset Memorial Park, North Olmsted, Ohio (Section 37, Lot 63, Space 6).
