Dennis Edwin Cruise's Obituary
Dennis Edwin Cruise, 90 years old, of Fairview Park, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 21st, 2024. Dennis was a loving husband to Arleen for 63 years, a wonderful father, grandfather, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, neighbor, and friend.
Dennis was born on October 1, 1934, to Luther and Nora Cruise in Bellburn, West Virginia. After attending Rainelle High School, Dennis moved to Kokomo, Indiana and then to Cleveland, Ohio. Regardless of where he lived, Dennis always loved West Virginia and knew it as his beloved home.
Dennis was drafted into the US Army and spent several years serving stateside and in Germany. While stationed in Germany, Dennis worked as a messenger, driving a Jeep and transporting documents and senior military staff around the base, and surrounding towns. In between assignments, Dennis would always be found reading his Bible in his Jeep. He also spent time playing guitar in a band, performing at various local venues around Darmstadt, Germany.
After the Army, Dennis returned to Cleveland, where he married Arleen and worked as an electrician at J&L/LTV Steel for 30 years. Dennis and Arleen were an example of unconditional love, always valuing and supporting each other. During their marriage, they lived in several homes around Cleveland, eventually settling in Fairview Park where they raised their family.
Dennis was a down to earth, kind and genuine man, who liked to help neighbors and would give folks the shirt off his back without thinking twice. For those who knew him, they were the better for it. Dennis was a man of few words, and those who listened to his words were always blessed by his kindness, gentle spirit and entertained by his sense of humor.
Dennis always liked to stay active. He loved to travel with Arleen, take road trips, work on his cars and houses, visit antique malls, build model ships, and keep the house in shape. Dennis loved doing crossword puzzles, watching the Andy Griffith Show and State Fair, listening to Marty Robbins and Gordon Lightfoot, and attending the annual Great Geauga County (state) Fair with his family.
Dennis was so loved and will be deeply missed. Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Luther and Nora Cruise, as well as three brothers, one sister, and a nephew.
Family is holding private services, and Dennis will be laid to rest at Sunset Memorial Park, North Olmsted, Ohio. His family asks that those that love Dennis honor his memory in their own way.
