Donald J McLaughlin's Obituary
Donald J. McLaughlin August 28, 1957 – July 3, 2026
Donald J. McLaughlin, a steady, kind, and gentle presence in every part of his life, passed away on July 3, 2026, surrounded by family. Born August 25, 1957, Don built a life defined by hard work, loyalty, and humor that made people trust him instantly.
An electrician by trade, Don was a person everyone called when something needed fixing or figuring out. As the family’s ‘Mr. Fix-It’, he approached every job, big or small, with the same calm determination. He didn’t make a fuss; he just got things done with a smile.
Don was active in his church as a board member, Royal Rangers Commander, and member of the Worship team. He shared his musical and artistic talents generously. Whether he was playing, painting, or working on a project, he brought a thoughtful, determined, hands-on approach to everything he did.
He is survived by his faithful wife, Jan, and his children Tom, Pat and his partner Collin, and Anne and her husband Christian Metelsky. Don also had a soft spot for his cat companions, Jelly and Squash, who were a large part of his life and brought him plenty of amusement and naps.
Don came from a large, close family and is survived by his mother Patricia Lewicki, his siblings Dave, Dan, Linda, Mary, Maureen, Eileen, Bob, Nancy, Kevin, Patty, Norm, Paul, and Marty. He also leaves behind many friends, nieces, nephews, and loved ones who knew him as a dependable, welcoming, and loving man to be around. He is preceded in death by his father Daniel McLaughlin, stepfather Al Lewicki, and his twin Ron and brother Thomas.
Don was driven by his love of family and his faith. He did not need attention or praise to make an impact. His presence made life better, and his absence is, and will be, felt deeply.
Don’s viewing will take place at Sunset Memorial Legacy Funeral Home on Friday, July 10th from 4-8pm at Sunset Legacy Funeral Home, 6265 Columbia Rd. North Olmsted, OH 44070 (stay to the right and follow sign for Sunset Legacy Funeral Home). The Memorial Service will also take place at Sunset Legacy Funeral Home at 11am, followed by Internment at Sunset Memorial Park on Saturday, July 18th at 11am.
