Donald E. Williams' Obituary
Donald E. Williams, age 89, passed away peacefully on October 2, 2025. Born on July 13, 1936, in Brooklyn, New York, Don was raised in Queens by his loving parents, the late Catherine and Norman Williams.
Throughout his life, Don called New York, Indiana, and eventually Ohio home—settling in Richmond Heights before retiring in Twinsburg and later moving to Olmsted Falls following the passing of his beloved wife.
Don built a career as a dedicated sales and store manager at JC Penney Auto Centers and Firestone, where he worked tirelessly until his retirement. But his passions extended far beyond the workplace.
A gifted athlete in his youth, Don was invited to try out for the Brooklyn Dodgers—a testament to his love for baseball. He and his wife were devoted Cleveland Indians/ Guardians fans, and Don was a walking encyclopedia of baseball trivia. At age 39, he took up running and quickly became a force in the sport, completing numerous marathons and ultra-marathons, including grueling 50- and 100-mile races and 24-hour endurance events. His commitment to running inspired generations of his family to lace up their shoes and follow in his footsteps.
When running was no longer possible, Don found joy in hiking the trails of the Cleveland Metroparks. He also cherished quiet moments spent solving crossword puzzles, watching classic films and musicals, and enjoying orchestral and operatic performances. A man of routine and reflection, Don was known for his meticulously crafted lists—often brought out during dinner conversations to spark lively discussion.
A devout Catholic, Don lived his faith through kindness, humility, and unwavering devotion to his family. He valued connection deeply, maintaining lifelong friendships with childhood companions, colleagues, and fellow runners.
Don’s legacy is one of endurance, curiosity, and love. He will be remembered for his generous spirit, his encyclopedic mind, and the way he brought people together—whether on a trail, at the dinner table, or through a shared love of the game.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Anne M. Williams, with whom he shared a lifetime of companionship and joy. He is lovingly remembered by his children: James Williams, Deborah (Chris) Womack, and Julie (Jeff) Kho. His legacy continues through his cherished grandchildren: Alexander (Alyssa) Kho, Hannah Kho, and Briley Anne Womack; and his great-granddaughter, Amelia, each of whom brought him immense pride and happiness. Don also leaves behind his dear sister, Barbara Ann Gambarani, whose bond with him remained strong throughout the years.
Don’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
A private ceremony will be held.
