Donna Jean Hartman's Obituary
Donna Hartman (nee Lang), aged 88, long-time resident of Berea, Ohio, passed away peacefully on January 26th, 2024. Born on August 18th, 1935, in Akron, Ohio, she was the daughter of the late Hayward Lang and Virginia (Lang) Elsass.
Donna was the cherished wife of the late Dalton “Del” Hartman; they shared an extraordinary love affair that endured for 55 wonderful years. Being a wife, mother, grandma, and great-grandma was the driving purpose of Donna’s life.
She was a graduate of Stow High School where she was a cheerleader. She went on to attend Ohio University where she pledged the Pi Beta Phi sorority. Donna began her career as a stenographer/secretary before dedicating the rest of her life to the full-time love and care of her family.
She enjoyed reading and was an active member of “Bookers”, her local book club. She also bowled in a league for many years, but her favorite activities included dining out and traveling with her husband Del. Together, they enjoyed treasured annual family trips to Hilton Head Island, South Carolina.
Donna delighted in attending her children’s and grandchildren’s many activities. She was always in the stands for Eric, Mark, and Max’s games. In addition, she was an avid music lover and supporter of the Cleveland-area arts scene. She especially enjoyed a front row seat for performances by The Strongsville Community Band, of which her late husband, Del and grandsons Jonathan and Nathaniel were longtime members; her son Dave carries on the family’s musical legacy.
Donna is lovingly remembered by her family, her sons David Hartman (Jane) of Berea, OH, Thomas Hartman (Ethan) of Graham, NC, and former daughter-in-law Connie Hartman Jack (David Jack) of Akron, OH. She was the proud grandmother of Jonathan Hartman (Megan) of Southington, CT, Nathaniel Hartman (Emily) of Dublin, OH, Eric Hartman (Melissa) of Avon, OH, Mark Hartman (Sarah) of Medina, OH, and Max Hartman (Hannah) of Cleveland, OH. Her eight great-grandchildren, Elianna & Oliver, Juniper & Arlo, Logan & Vivian, and Cayden & Henry brought her immense joy and will carry on her lasting love of family.
The family will receive friends and family on Saturday, February 3rd, 2024, from 12 PM to 2 PM at Sunset Memorial Chapel, 6245 Columbia Road, North Olmsted, Ohio. A funeral service in celebration of Donna’s life will follow at 2 PM in the chapel. Interment will be beside her beloved husband at the Westwood Abby Mausoleum in Sunset Memorial Park.
Memorial contributions may be directed to Hospice of the Western Reserve, 17876 St. Clair Ave. Cleveland, OH 44192, or The Strongsville Community Band, c/o Karen Muskoff, Treasurer, 20771 Oak Trail Court, Strongsville, OH 44149.
Donna’s grace and kindness touched the lives of many. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered in the hearts of those who loved her.
