Earl E. Platell Jr.'s Obituary
Earl E. Platell, Jr., originally from Aurora, Ohio passed away in Westlake, Ohio after a long and fulfilling life.
A World War II veteran of the US Army, he served in combat operations in Italy immediately after high school from 1944-1946. One of the highlights of his later years was being a member of the Honor Flight that was flown from Cleveland to Washington DC and honored by our country for his service.
After the war Earl attended Fenn College, now Cleveland State, where he earned a degree in Accounting and met Florence Pospishil, and they married in 1950. They were blessed with a family of three daughters: Gail (Ron) Baughman, Linda (Kevin) Barrett and Carol (Mark) Thurber, six grandchildren, and 5 great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed a lifelong friendship with his sister Dorisjane Emery.
Having enjoyed many years of travel and bridge games, Florence predeceased Earl in 1998. In later years Earl found happiness by marrying Virginia (Ginny) Conant, and they spent 10 happy years until her death 2010. For the past 5 years, he has enjoyed the company of Joann Lehman and they shared many happy memories.
Earl was a proud member of the Ohio Society of CPA's and the Tax Executive Institute and spent his entire working career as a tax specialist for several large national corporations.
He was a Redcoat Usher at Cleveland Playhouse Square for more than 20 years and ushered over 10,000 performances. He loved to play bridge with both Florence and Ginny, and especially loved his farm in southeastern Ohio, where he spent most weekends for over 40 years.
Earl had many nieces, nephews and other family members and friends who loved his gentle nature and winning ways. He could make a friend within 5 minutes of meeting a stranger; and he maintained many life-long friendships with people from every walk of life and every corner of the world. He often reflected on being blessed with a full and happy life. He will be missed by everyone and leaves behind a rich legacy in his family and friends.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at a later date.
