Aunt Elaine was always smiling and engaging with a welcoming spirit. Whenever we visited, I enjoyed sitting around the table listening to the stories she told with such animation that always made me laugh. She had a knack for decorating her home like it was the cover of a magazine. Growing up I always admired how her fashion sense and makeup made her a vision every time I saw her. When my family moved from San Diego back to Ohio, Uncle Tom and Aunt Elaine graciously and generously took us into their home until our home was ready. One morning, Aunt Elaine asked me if I wanted pancakes for breakfast. As she stood in the doorway in her nightgown, I realized it was the first time I had seen her without her makeup and thought, "she is still beautiful even without it." l understood that day what is meant by "inner beauty." Her kindness, good-hearted actions, and sunny disposition were the core of who she was. I will miss her deeply and consider it a blessing to have had her as my godmother.
