Eleonora Schnittger's Obituary
Eleonora Schnittger, 88, of Bandon, OR, formerly of Brooklyn, OH, passed away August 11, 2016.
She was born January 24, 1928 in Santa Ana, El Salvador and legally immigrated to the United States in 1941 with her widowed mother, first arriving in Dalton, Georgia to begin her new life in America. Eleonora later moved to San Francisco, CA where she met her future husband, Henry Schnittger. She moved to Cleveland, OH where she was married on August 2, 1947 and went on to raise a family of three sons, Mark, Paul and Philip, and enjoyed 56 years of marriage.
Eleonora lived a full and blessed life filled with family, friends, travel and opportunity. Her interests were wide and varied. Whether it was world travel, bocci ball, quilting, sewing, painting, bingo, cards, camping or fishing she enjoyed life and never lost sight or empathy for the people around her. Eleonora had a natural calling to help others.
She gave time, energy, and resources to provide a hand up to the less fortunate, never forgetting her humble beginnings. Eleonora was an active lifelong member of the Lutheran Church. In 2005, after her husband’s death, she traveled to Oregon and was captivated by the beauty and peacefulness of the Southern Oregon coast where she lived out the twilight of her life.
Eleonora is survived by sons, Mark Schnittger and wife, Susanne, Paul Schnittger and wife Marilyn, and Philip Schnittger and wife Wendy; eight grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, one niece, and two nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Henry and sister, Hertha.
Visitation is 12-2 p.m., Saturday, August 20, 2016, at Messiah Lutheran Church, 21485 Lorain Rd., Fairview Park, OH, where funeral services will commence at 2 p.m. Interment at Sunset Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Brookside Center Food Bank or Lutheran West High School.
