Esther Iliescu's Obituary
Esther Iliescu, a devoted mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on May 24, 2026, in Belmont, Massachusetts. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, on January 8, 1930, to the late Elizabeth and George Gheta, Esther lived a life full of love, laughter, and creativity.
She is lovingly remembered by her daughters Rodica Iliescu Woodbury of Arlington, Massachusetts, and Doina Iliescu of Belmont, Massachusetts; her cherished granddaughter Emily Kazwood of Snohomish, Washington; her daughter-in-law Cait Kazwood of Snohomish, Washington, and her sons-in-law, Steve Johnson of Belmont, Massachusetts and Chuck Woodbury of Edmonds, Washington. She was the devoted wife of Nicolae Iliescu of Lincoln, Massachusetts.
Esther had a remarkable green thumb and could coax beauty from any garden plot she tended. Her flower garden, especially filled with colorful zinnias and bright marigolds, was a source of joy and pride. An accomplished baker, Esther delighted in creating raised donuts, Romanian strudel, breads, pies, cookies, and stunning cakes for family celebrations and holidays — treats that brought comfort and smiles to all who were lucky enough to enjoy them.
Her talents extended beyond the kitchen and garden. Esther was a beloved manicurist, known for her skill, warmth, and the strong friendships she built with her clients. She loved to entertain and took great care in making her home a welcoming and beautiful place for friends and family alike.
Esther was known for her lively sense of humor and her appreciation for people with joyful, bubbly personalities. She especially treasured those who could make her laugh and who appreciated her down-to-earth nature and forthright manner. Her honesty, warmth, and spirited personality made her unforgettable to those who knew her well.
Esther will be remembered for her kindness, creativity, hospitality, humor, and deep devotion to those she loved. Her memory will be treasured always by her family and all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Visitation is Friday, June 19, 2026, from 11 AM - 12 PM at Sunset Memorial Chapel, 6245 Columbia Road, North Olmsted, OH 44070, where the funeral service will follow at 12 PM.
