Frank Joseph Hamski's Obituary
Frank Joseph Hamski passed away peacefully on December 23, 2023, at the age of 96.
He loved being outside: Fishing, gardening, planting fruits & vegetables. His tomato plants were like his babies. He had to plant every last one outside that he had nurtured in the house, even if they numbered over 100 plants!
Viewing scenery and traveling with his family were his passions: first in his old army tent, then a truck camper, and finally his trusty Winnebago. He crisscrossed the roads in almost every state, plus Canada & Mexico. He and his late wife, Betty, also visited Europe and went on many cruises.
One of the joys of his life was fishing, whether on his boat, or off the shores of a lake or river, he was happy. He shared this excitement with his siblings, nephews, kids, & son-in-law.
He was a lovable combination of Archie Bunker, James Garner, & Fred Flintstone, with a little bit of Crankshaft mixed in. His creative side led him to make homemade root beer as a teenager, only to have the bottles explode in the attic! He loved ice cream, Chinese Buffets, eggs over easy, homemade pickles, fish-fry meals, Westerns, bowling, baseball, puzzles, horseshoes, & Polka dancing. He was recognized for donating blood year after year.
He served in an Army Mash Unit in the Korean War as a Corporal Combat Medic, and worked for General Motors Fisher Body cutting leather for cars when he returned to the States. He could fix almost anything! His motto was “Always try to make things better.”
Beloved husband of the late Betty (nee Hedervary); and formerly the late Helen (nee Sopata). Cherished father of Linda Hamski and Karen Buzzard (Robert). Dear stepfather of the late Debra Hanson (nee Weed), the late David Weed, and the late Dan Weed. Loving son of the late August and Elizabeth (nee Skiba) Hamski. Brother of the following, all deceased: Joseph (Rose), Raymond, Dorothy Barszcz (Eddie), and Dolores Barbosky (Joe). Grandfather of Melissa (Missy), David, Devin, Brittney, and the late Ashley Anne. Great-Grandfather, and Dear Uncle of many.
A graveside ceremony will be held on Monday, January 8, 2024, at 2:00 PM at Sunset Memorial Park. Family and friends will gather at 1:45 PM at the cemetery gate to line up in procession.
