George Alfred Chanter's Obituary
George Alfred Chanter, aged 106, of Parma Heights, Ohio, passed away peacefully on April 29, 2025. Born in Dundas, Ontario, Canada on September 19, 1918. George was the cherished son of the late Douglas and Hannah Chanter and the brother of the late Douglas, Eva, Frederick and Edward.
George was the beloved and dedicated husband of 63 years to the late Lois (Hotrum) Chanter. He is survived by his loving children, Susan (Jim) Mulhern and Ted (Diane) Chanter; his grandchildren, Michael Mulhern, Patrick (Sandy) Becka, Courtney Bern, Ryan (Jaime) Chanter, and Ashley (Jason) Rizzo; and his great-grandchildren, Maggie, Audrey, Drew, Emerson, Casey, Ella, Amanda, Eamon, Rory, Rowan, Maisie, Olivia, Emilia, and Theo. He was preceded in death by his grandson, Martin Mulhern, as well as his wife, parents, and siblings.
George had a lifelong passion for sports, especially hockey and was a goalie in his younger years. He was an avid fan of Ohio State Buckeye football. His love for woodworking was evident in the beautiful furniture he crafted for his family and friends. George enjoyed all music from opera to bluegrass and was always searching out new historical facts. No book was too long or too detailed in his quest for knowledge. Fishing and gardening were George’s way of finding peace and joy in nature. His classic iris garden will live on in the yards of family and friends. He was known for his amazing personality and great sense of humor, often delivering his famous one-liners - “I’ll never forget what’s-her-name.”
A memorial service to honor George's life will be held on Thursday, May 15, 2025, at 10:00 AM at Sunset Chapel, 6245 Columbia Rd, North Olmsted, Ohio 44070
