George M Prok's Obituary
George M. Prok, 92, born in Lakewood, Ohio, to the late George Prok Jr and Anna Perko. George passed away on July 31, 2023. He was devoted to the late Joan Prok (nee Foltz) for 64 years and often recalled the first time he saw her, as she was wearing red shorts and a white blouse. He was preceded in death by his siblings: Betty Pelikan, and Daniel Prok. He is survived by his children Susan (Steven) Grekian, Gary (Michelle) Prok, and Laura (John, deceased) Podsiadlo. He is the cherished brother of Darine Harjar, Eleanor Dukles, David Prok, Myron (Shirley) Prok, and Leroy (Martha) Prok. He is the honored grandfather of Corey, Drew (Keri), Matthew (Tonia) and Cody. He is the loving great-grandfather of Oliver, Finn, Parker, and Quinn, and a loving uncle and great-uncle to many.
As the first of his lineage to graduate college, George graduated from Case Institute of Technology. Upon graduation, as the eldest son, he was devoted to supporting his parents and siblings. George was employed at NASA for 49 years; spending 36 years as a civil servant, and 13 years as a contractor. He published 30 scientific publications, 9 Department of Energy Reports, and had shared ownership of a U.S. patent. He received numerous awards and commendations for his outstanding achievements.
George loved his family, his engineering work, and his church. He was a faithful servant of the Lord at Ascension Lutheran Church for over 60 years. George was a member of the Kiwanis Club – North Olmsted for 44 years. He was a friend to many and will be thoroughly missed. A visitation will be held at Sunset Memorial Chapel, Tuesday, August 8, 2023, at 6245 Columbia Road, North Olmsted, OH 44070, from 4p.m.-7p.m. Family and friends will gather to celebrate his life at Ascension Lutheran Church, Wednesday, August 9, 2023, 28081 Lorain Road, North Olmsted, OH 44070. The service will begin at 1:30 p.m., followed by interment at Sunset Memorial Park, 6265 Columbia Road, North Olmsted, OH 44070. Donations can be made in his memory to Ascension Lutheran Church or Hospice of the Western Reserve.
