George C. Shinas' Obituary
George C. Shinas 92, passed away peacefully on December 21, 2024. He was born May 17, 1932 in Youngstown, Ohio to the late Constantinos and Meropi Shinas.
George was preceded in death by his beloved wife Maxine (nee Xides,) his brother Perry (Cleopatra) Shinas and several very special brother and sister-in-laws.
He is survived by daughter Myra Knouff (Gary), sons Dean Shinas and George Shinas (Stacey); grandchildren Jordan Larew (Karl), Nicholas and Sophia Shinas; great-grandchildren Stella and Niko Larew, his sister Katina (Gust) Athanasiou, brothers-in-law Ron Darrah and Lefty Xides, sisters-in-law Nancy Xides and Ellie Xides as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
George lived his life deeply rooted in his faith and guided by Christ. He was proud of his Greek heritage and loved to share it with those around him. He was an active member at St. Paul Greek Orthodox Church in North Royalton for over 50 years.
In 1954, George graduated from Youngstown College with a degree in accounting and was the first in his family to attend and graduate college. After college, he proudly served in the Army for two years and was stationed in Germany. This experience ignited his adventurous spirit and led him to travel around the world visiting over 75 countries and all 50 US states. After the Army, he worked briefly at Ford Motor Company then began his forty-year career with the Internal Revenue Service as a Corporate Field Agent. Upon his retirement, he continued to live a full life creating memories with his dear family and friends. George truly lived his life according to his motto: Life is a Journey: Enjoy the journey!
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 27, from 4 pm to 8 pm at Sunset Memorial Chapel located at 6245 Columbia Road, North Olmsted OH. with a Trisagion Service at 7 pm. Funeral services will be on Saturday, December 28 at 11am at St. Paul Greek Orthodox Church, 4548 Wallings Rd, North Royalton OH. Committal will take place at Sunset Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, George had requested that donations be made to the St. Paul Ladies Philoptochos Society in honor of his late wife Maxine.
