Gloria J. Fording's Obituary
Gloria Jean Fording (born October 8, 1945, died January 2, 2018)
Gloria J. Fording was a loving and caring mother of four and grandmother of ten. She is preceded in death by her father Russel B. Every.
She is survived by her mother, Marion J. Every and her four children: Tracy Lawson and her husband Eric and their two children Sarah and Corey; Tim Fording and his wife Kathie and their four children Molly, Michael, Caroline and Daisy; Tammy Adkins and her husband Bob and their two children Danielle and Zachary; and Torrey Owens and her husband Jerry and their two daughters Julia and Sydney.
She is also survived by her two younger brothers David Every and his wife Eva and Bill Every and his wife Barb, her ex-husband Dave Fording, many brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law on the Fording side, 12 nieces and nephews and a far flung gang of Michigan cousins all of whom she loved dearly and who have welcomed and loved Gloria.
Born in 1945 to proud parents Russel and Marion Every, Gloria was the oldest of three children. She spent her early childhood in Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti, Michigan before moving to the Toledo area. Gloria graduated from Sylvania High in 1963 and was a leader on the championship women’s bowling team. She took classes at Eastern Michigan University before getting married and starting a family in 1966. Her business career included a successful 15 year stint with Firestone in Akron working in their advertising sales department before moving to TMP Worldwide, an ad agency focused on “yellow pages” and similar advertising, in Cleveland.
Gloria was a strong woman and caring and compassionate mother who sacrificed willingly for her children. When her children were grown, she pursued a number of interests. She was an avid quilter, a gifted photographer and scrapbook enthusiast. There were few crafts she did not try and was a talented seamstress as well.
Gloria was a doting “Grammy” to ten grandchildren with ages ranging from 11 to 22. When not enjoying time with her children and grandchildren, she relished going on cruises and traveling the world. She loved visiting new countries and would take on all challengers in trivia competitions, Scrabble and card games (winning more than her share!). Gloria loved people and made every effort to participate actively in family reunions. She was a truly nice and thoughtful person with a great sense of humor and touched the lives of countless friends and family.
She has felt the loving embrace of her family and the many friends who have been with her for many years in Michigan, Toledo, Woodville and Strongsville, Ohio, where she lived since 1979.
