Gloria S. Lloyd's Obituary
Gloria S. Lloyd, 93, of Avon Lake, Ohio, passed away on March 24, 2025. Born in Cleveland, Ohio, on April 25, 1931, to the late Walter and Gladys Thomas, Gloria lived a life full of love, dedication, and creativity.
Gloria had a loving childhood with Christian parents who encouraged learning and personal growth. She was the beloved wife of the late Dennis R. Lloyd, with whom she shared many cherished years. Marrying Dennis January 17, 1970, and the years they spent together were life-changing moments for her, and she cherished being loved by Dennis' children and grandchildren.
She attended Cleveland Public Schools and graduated with a BA from Bob Jones University, later earning a master's in library science from Case Western Reserve University. Gloria worked at Cleveland Public Library, but her most of her career as a Media Specialist was spent at Lakewood City Schools, where she contributed significantly to children's library services and media centers, designing and updating children's rooms and conducting various programs. She pursued her passions with intellect and vigor, becoming a talented organist whose love for music brought harmony and inspiration to those around her. Her creativity extended into media art projects, which she lovingly crafted for her family. Gloria had a thoughtful spirit, often writing heartfelt notes to neighbors, friends, and those who were unwell, sharing words of comfort and encouragement.
In her free time, she enjoyed listening to music, reading, and spending time in nature. Some of her favorite memories included a memorable week spent at a place named Linwood in Vermillion and a trip to Greenville, NY. She felt most at peace at home with her family and memories. She wished to be remembered as a loving Christian, a dedicated librarian, and a good friend. Special memories of her wedding day, graduation, and family moments will be cherished by all who knew her.
Gloria is survived by her stepdaughters, Susan (Samuel) Packard and Nancy (Craig) Port, and her cherished step-grandchildren: Stacie Packard, Matthew (Michelle) Packard, Nathan (Courtney) Port, Sara (Rory) Scarvelli, and Thomas Port. She also leaves behind six beloved step-great-grandchildren: Ayva, Jaxton, Olivia, Rileigh, Julia, and Emerson. Her nieces and nephews; Chris (Brent) Thomas-Laner, DeAnn (Barry Brown) Thomas, and Duane (Annette) Thomas.
Preceded in death by her brother, the Reverend William B. Thomas, and sister-in-law Lois Thomas, Gloria carried their memory with love and reverence. Her faith and unwavering kindness were constants in her life, shaping her into the incredible woman remembered by so many today.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests contributions to Bob Jones University Fine Arts department.
