Hazel L. Dickson's Obituary
Hazel L. Dickson, age 81, passed away on Monday, May 22, 2023 at her home in Florida. She was born in Nashville Tennessee on August 16, 1941 to the late William and Lillian Griggs (nee Mays.) Hazel was happiest when she was with her family or pursuing her many passions. She loved having her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren over every Sunday during her summers up north to gather at their pool. Hazel was also an avid quilter and self-taught painter. Throughout her lifetime, she taught hundreds of people how to paint and quilt and always had a craft available for her grandchildren. In addition to the arts, she also took up golf later in life. Hazel was often on the green participating in ladies’ leagues or with Norm and their group of friends in Florida. Hazel also had a deep love for animals. She had love for anything from farm animals to exotic pets during her lifetime. She leaves behind her beloved African Grey Parrot, Timmy, who was a faithful companion to Hazel throughout the years as well as a source of joy to her children and grandchildren. Hazel taught Timmy an extensive vocabulary that everyone loves.
Hazel was preceded in death by her husband Norman Dickson, her son in laws Manny Nicolan and Rob Hayden. She is survived by her loving children Theresa Nicolan, Tim (Liz) Brlan, Jeff (Amy) Brlan, Michael (Celeste) Brlan, Hope Hayden, Ted (Tara) Dickson, Patty (Jim) Bowes, Tom (Lisa) Dickson, TJ (Beth) Dickson and Tony (Janine) Dickson. Hazel leaves behind many grandchildren, great grandchildren and many friends who will miss her dearly.
We are thankful that Hazel had the support of Georgia and Bill and many other caregivers towards the end of her life. Hazel’s caregivers provided endless support and love. Specifically, we are grateful for Robyn from Home Instead for everything that she did over the last few weeks. Hazel will be missed dearly by her friends and family. Her family is at peace knowing she is now with the love of her life, Norm.
