Helmut R. Lapohn's Obituary
Helmut R. Lapohn, 86, of North Olmsted, passed away July 28, 2017.
He was born in Koenigsberg, Germany, the son of the late Richard and Lisbeth (nee Wilkowski) Lapohn. He moved to the US when he was 20 and soon met his wife of 60 years, Rose M. (nee Barvincak). Together they raised five loving children, Richard, Ronald, Randy, Renee (Mike) Fragapane and Michele Hoyt. He is also the cherished grandfather of Ashley, Natasha (Charlie), Erica (Justin), Dominic (Shaina), Kristen (Bryan Zimmerman), Nicole (Cory Matthews), Jessica (Nick), Matthew (deceased), Kelsey, and Kyle and great-grandfather of 16; dear brother of Edith (Ernie) Breda (deceased) and Gary (Leslie); adored uncle and friend of many. He was a member of the Operating Engineers Local 18 and retired from All Erection and Crane Rental in Cleveland. Following retirement, he and Rose spent the next 10 years wintering in Jacksonville, FL where they enjoyed the ocean together. His hobbies included Harley’s, the metro parks and camping. Helmut and Rose enjoyed going to the stables in the metro parks and watching the horses and also to the 100th Bomber’s Group where they would sit and watch the planes fly over from Hopkins Airport.
