Henry Neidert's Obituary
Henry Neidert, age 84, passed away peacefully on September 5th, 2024. Born on January 18th, 1940, in Gyonk, Hungary, to the late John and Anna Neidert (Brisching), Henry lived a life full of love, dedication and resilience.
Henry was preceded in death by his first wife, Waltraud, and beloved siblings, John Neidert and Anna Marie Neidert. He is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Mary Neidert (McLaughlin), and his cherished children, Stephen, Michael (Andrea Coen) and Christina Neidert, who will continue to honor his legacy. He was a special uncle and friend to many.
Henry’s memory will be forever treasured by his family and friends. His kindness, wisdom and tenacious spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Henry’s young life was not easy. In Hungary, in 1948, German families were forced off of their land, leaving everything behind, and were sent to East Germany, in cattle cars. His father was carried off to war and never seen or heard from again. He and his mother with other families escaped to West Germany in 1949 after a treacherous journey in the dead of night. He lived in Lonsee, West Germany, where he still has dear friends. At age 17 they boarded the troop transporter U.S.S. Harry Taylor as war refugees, for his journey to America in 1957.
Henry loved music and played in many German bands. He was a founding member of Die Blauen Jungs (The Blue Boys) and played for many years all over Ohio and Canada, even producing records which are still sought after today. He was a dedicated member of the Donauschwaben German American Club. Model trains and stamp collecting were his hobbies and he loved to play soccer, tennis and bowling. He was a long-time electrician for the Ford Motor Company in Brook Park, Ohio.
