Hui Miao's Obituary
Dr. Hui Miao, age 51 of Rocky River, passed away May 6, 2015.
Hui was an exceptionally talented scientist, an independent thinker, a devoted mother, and a wonderful friend and colleague. Her passing is a immeasurable loss to her family and friends, and to the community of her beloved field of study. She will be immensely missed by all.
Born and raised in the beautiful city of Jinan, China, Hui obtained her BS and PhD degrees in Shanghai and Beijing, respectively. After a visiting scholarship at the Karolinska Institute in Stockholm, Sweden, Hui joined the MetroHealth Medical Center and Case Western Reserve University in 1998 as a postdoctoral research associate. In the ensuing 14 plus years, Hui made a number of indelible marks on our understanding of cell signaling in physiology and diseases. The discoveries that Hui made over the years have laid a foundation for novel cancer drug development strategies, which will help future cancer patients. Her accomplishments led to her promotion to Assistant Professor at CWRU School of Medicine. In addition to excelling in her own research, she was always willing to go out of her way to help others by sharing her skills, insights and knowledge. In parallel with her rigorous scientific pursuit, Hui loved art and poetry and always had a witty sense of humor.
We will miss Hui’s intelligence and passion for science, and always wonder what she would have accomplished had her life not been cut so tragically short. Most of all, though, we will mourn the passing of a friend and colleague whose calm presence, reassuring smiles and caring ways soften the edge of every working day for those around her. We extend our deepest sympathies to her colleagues, her friends, her family and her loved ones.
Hui is survived her husband Mingxu Wen, son Bob Wen, three brothers, a sister, and both parents.”
