Jack F. Boss, Jr.'s Obituary
Jack F. Boss, Jr., age 88 of North Olmsted, beloved husband of the late Jacqueline Boss (nee Kitson), loving father, grandfather, great-grandfather and uncle, passed away surrounded by his family on April 9th, 2025.
Jack Boss' upbringing cemented his strong work ethic and community pride.
Jack gained a strong work ethic from his father at an early age. Jeep Boss came here from Holland in 1929 and started a cement business in 1932. Jack started tagging along on jobs at age 8, and by age 14 had become a skilled finisher. After graduating from high school in 1955, Jack started working full-time with his father at Boss Concrete. In 1974, he became the owner of Boss Concrete, and with his wife Jackie, ran the company for 48 years.
In 1981, Jack and Jackie built 28900 Office Park. This small family-owned and operated office park has continually provided flexible office space to northeast Ohio companies for 45 years.
Jack was a lifelong resident of North Olmsted, and gave unselfishly and enthusiastically of his time and talents for the city and its residents, especially its youth. Sometimes he held office or chaired committees; more often he simply stepped in to help a civic project in need of assistance. His list of accomplishments and volunteer activities is so long that it is difficult to enumerate them all.
Jack was a member of Community Council, representing N.O. Eagles Boosters, the Board of Education and the Chamber of Commerce. He was the recipient of the Community Council Award of Appreciation in 1975. He entered his first homecoming float in 1959, which was followed almost yearly by various floats for many organizations, including three floats for the homecoming queen.
In 1967, as a member of the North Olmsted Exchange Club, he constructed the first Freedom Shrine at the junior high. He served as president of the North Olmsted Eagles Booster for two terms, and was instrumental in obtaining a permit for Bingo, which was a major fundraiser. As chairman of construction for the Eagles Boosters he was involved in the building of a press box and storage building at the old N.O.H.S.
Jack was a member of the North Olmsted Citizens Committee for Public Schools in 1971-1972 and 1978-1979. He served on the North Olmsted Board of Education in 1977. He was chairman of two successful levy campaigns, in 1982 and 1984, and was also a member of the Polaris Advisory Committee starting in 1975.
In 1957 Jack became a member of the North Olmsted Chamber of Commerce, and was elected president in 1971 and 1981, the first person to hold that position twice. In 1976, he helped move a 100 year old cabin from Columbia Road to its present site at Frostville Museum, built the bandstand in the park, and shot off the fireworks for the Fourth of July.
Jack was awarded the Charles B. Lewis award in 1978 by the Chamber of Commerce for outstanding community involvement. He received the North Olmsted Rotary Club Businessman of the Year Award in 1977, as well as North Olmsted's Citizen of the Year in 1984.
Most recently, Jack was an integral player in the relocation and improvements to several buildings on the Olmsted Historical Society's Frostville Museum campus.
"I had a lot of fun and worked with a lot of really nice people to accomplish all the things that I did. I didn't do it by myself."
Jack was preceded in death by his wife Jacqueline; devoted father of Jack III (SunHwa), Debbie Borsz (Tom), Brenda Larochelle (Mike); loving grandfather of Christine, Timothy, Matthew, Mark, Taylor, Dana, and Elise; loving great-grandfather of Alister and Amelia; son of the late Jack and Irvena Boss; beloved brother of Ronald, Pat and Luane.
Visitation will be held at Sunset Chapel, 6245 Columbia Road, North Olmsted, on Wednesday, April 16th, 2025, from 4pm-8pm. A service will be held Thursday, April 17th, 2025, at 2pm. The family welcomes all to attend the service and celebrate his life. Please consider a donation to the Olmsted Historical Society in Jack's honor.
