James Edward Quillin's Obituary
James Edward Quillin, 80, of Medina, passed away Saturday, September 30, 2017.
Beloved father of Deborah (Gerald) Fought, Michael Quillin, and David (Michelle) Quillin; loving grandfather of Dracie and Devin Galmarini, David, Sara, and Andrew Quillin; great grandfather of Zaygria, Zahmia, and Jeffrey Glass-Galmarini, Ethan and Taylor Cramer, and Teagan Quillin; brother of Pat (Joe) Smith, John (Sylvia) Quillin, Jerry (Joyce) Quillin, and Linda (Jim) Hutchinson and his good friend Sue Chapman. He was preceded in death by his wife Margaret Ann (Tober) Quillin, and his parents James Frank Quillin and Virginia (Hammack) Quillin.
James was a 1955 Sharples High School graduate. He worked at Otto Konigslow Manufacturing Company where he retired after 48 years welding precision aircraft parts. One of his greatest accomplishments was when he welded a gas tank for one of Nasa’s space shuttles. His passion was building vintage cars, including chopping the hood/doors, painting, fabricating and building engines (some for racing), and his garage was called Jim’s Chop Shop. James had a great group of friends he attended local and national car shows with. He loved animals, especially Max, Sam and Haley. James was a modern-day blacksmith, an artist who could fabricate anything out of metal including art for the home or a grill for a car he was working on. He used his skills in metal fabrication to be a successful entrepreneur building machines to polish bowling balls and selling them to local shops. For his first grandchild he made his daughter a doctor out of metal to give to the obstetrician. For his sons he made a left handed bowler and a weight lifter. Numerous friends received peace signs, frogs and turtles.
James was always lending a hand to those in need. He attended the Church of Christ, Medina where he made friends and found peace after losing his wife Margaret in 2004.
James had many adventures with his good friend Sue Chapman and enjoyed helping her with projects around the home. She is one of the family and his children appreciate how she kept dad engaged after losing his wife.
He will be greatly missed by anyone that knows him. He was a true gentleman and loved his family.
A visitation will be held on Sunday, October 8, 2017 from 2-5 PM in the Chapel at Sunset Memorial Park, 6245 Columbia Road, North Olmsted where his funeral service will commence on Monday, October 9, 2017 at 10 AM with graveside services to follow at Sunset Memorial Park. dostalbokas.com
