Janet Amer's Obituary
Janet Loree Amer, age 95, went home to God on Thursday, June 23, 2022. Janet was predeceased by her parents, Louis H. and Jean B. (nee Van Gilder) Amer, and her brother Richard (Dolores, nee Bouschere), all of Akron, Ohio, and special friend Patricia Lange. Janet is survived by niece Rita Amer of Seattle, WA. and nephew Paul Amer of Charlotte, NC., great-niece Xoe Amer of Seattle, WA and nephew Brett Lange (Amy, son Benjamin).
Janet was a high school English and Choral Music teacher for 39 years. As Sister Mary St. Gabriel, of the sisters of Notre Dame, she taught at St. Michael Elyria Catholic, Our Lady of Lourdes, and St. Peter High Schools. Later, as a lay woman, Janet taught 20 years at Cleveland Heights High School. Janet was proud of having earned her Master’s degree from the University of Notre Dame, South Bend, Indiana. In retirement, Janet worked ten years as a docent at the Cleveland Hershey Children’s Garden. She also traveled to Hawaii, Alaska, Europe, and Cape Cod.
Calling hours will be held on Saturday, July 2, 2022 from 10-12 Noon with services immediately following at 12 noon at Sunset Chapel, 6245 Columbia Road, North Olmsted, Ohio 44070. She will be privately laid to rest at Sunset Cemetery. Those who wish may offer a memorial in Janet’s name to Greater Cleveland Food Bank, St. Augustine Hunger Center, or a charity of choice.
