Janet Claire Burkhardt's Obituary
Janet Claire Burkhardt (nee Hottell), 91, of Westlake, Ohio, passed away peacefully on November 30, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.
Beloved wife of 65 years to the late Harry "Skip" Fornes Burkhardt, cherished mother of Barb Hilovsky (Marty), Debra Farmer (Wess), Mary K. Burkhardt (Michael), and Brian Burkhardt (Amy). Dear grandmother of Katie Hilovsky, Jamie Hilovsky (Carey), Jana, Cami, and Bri Burkhardt, great-grandmother to Maxton, Oliver, and Emerson Hilovsky. Dearest daughter of the late Georgia and Clyde S. Hottell; sister of the late Jane Jacobson, John Hottell (Rita); and loving Aunt to many.
After graduating from Rocky River High School, Janet attended Saint Luke’s School of Nursing where she earned her RN degree. She then married Skip, her high school sweetheart and they began building their life together.
She was a dedicated volunteer, giving her time extensively to the American Red Cross and the local Meals on Wheels program. Janet also supported Cleveland’s cultural institutions including the Cleveland Orchestra, The Playhouse, and the Museum of Art. She had a passion for travel and enjoyed planning trips and vacations providing her family with countless opportunities and memorable experiences.
Janet deeply valued education and instilled a love of learning in both her children and grandchildren. She believed in the transformative power of education and encouraged her family to pursue their dreams. Her love, guidance and wisdom will forever remain in our hearts.
