Janet "Jan" Gomoll's Obituary
In Loving Memory of Janet A. (Speer) Gomoll
Jan Gomoll, a cherished resident of Bay Village, passed away on January 21, 2024, surrounded
by the love of her family. She was born on June 27, 1951, to Edith and Arthur Speer, and her
departure leaves a void that will be deeply felt by those who knew and loved her.
Jan embarked on a journey of love and companionship with Carl Gomoll, her high-school
sweetheart, whom she married in 1972. They were blessed with three sons, Andrew, Aaron, and
Jamie, who meant the world to her. Jan also reveled in the joy of being a GiGi (short for
Grandma Gomoll) to her four beautiful grandchildren.
A graduate of Miami University, Janet dedicated over two decades of her professional life as an
Event Planner at The United Church of Christ. Her commitment and passion for creating
memorable experiences touched the lives of many within the community.
Jan enjoyed creative outlets including watching theater productions of any scale. She loved
crafting beautiful handmade cards for friends and family, never missing a birthday, anniversary,
or special occasion.
Travel was a passion throughout Jan's life that started in college when she and Carl journeyed
to Switzerland. She treasured beach vacations with family and friends, exploring the Outer
Banks, Hilton Head, Cancun and other destinations. In recent years, Jan and Carl ventured to
Greece, Central Europe, and Egypt.
Jan Gomoll leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unforgettable moments. Jan is
survived by husband, Carl Gomoll; sons Andrew (SarahZane Moore), Aaron (Melissa Erdogdu),
and Jamie (Lanée Slaughter); grandchildren Olivia James Gomoll, Scotty Gomoll, Fox Gomoll,
and Leon Gomoll; sister Judy Trefz; brother Don Speer. Many others who had the privilege of
knowing her will feel her loss. However, her spirit will continue to inspire and her memory will
be a source of comfort during this difficult time.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to the CAHC Men's Shelter at 2100
Lakeside, Cleveland, OH 44114.
To honor and remember Jan, friends and family are invited to gather on Friday, February 2,
2024, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Sunset Chapel (6245 Columbia Road, North Olmsted, Ohio).
A Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 AM on Saturday, February 3, 2024.
