Jean Irene Davies' Obituary
Jean Irene Davies, 95, passed away on May 17, 2018. Born June 17, 1922 in Cleveland, OH to the
late George and Irene (Haneberg) Pratt.
Jean (Grandma Puff) is lovingly remembered by her 3 children; Darleen Davies, David Davies
(deceased) and Ruth (Joseph) Scina. She is the grandmother of 10; Stacey (Daniel) Lopriore,
Joseph (Katie) Scina, Stephen (Christie) Scina, Edward (Carolyn Tudron) Scina, Rebecca (Kelly
Sippola) Scina, Andrew (Michele) Scina, Denise Appel, Tammy Davies, Melanie Davies, Brian
(Lindy) Davies. The Great-grandmother of 19; Brandon, Claire, Colin, Destiny, Emily, Gavin, Gwen,
Hailey, Haley, Jessica, Joshua, Kailyn, Kandice, Lloyd, Marissa, Nicholas, Valerie, Vincent, Weston
and the Great-great grandmother of 1; Liyaah. Jean was preceded in death by her brother, Hugh
(Christine) Pratt.
Jean grew up in Cleveland and graduated in 1940 from West Tech High School. She married Edward
Rowland Davies, her high school sweetheart in 1943 while on leave from the Army
during WWII. Ed Davies, “Rocky” as he was sometimes called, worked for Ohio Bell Telephone
Company for 40 years. They were happily married for 49 years until his passing in 1993. They met
as members of the youth organization at Trinity Methodist Church and were active members of
Christ United Methodist church.
Together they volunteered at Crile VA Hospital in Parma, provided transportation and support to the
elderly through the Friends In Search of Help (FISH) program, they repaired and refurbished toys for
kids through the Ohio Bell Telephone company’s – Toys For Kid’s program, and worked tirelessly at the
West Park Community Cupboard. Jean ultimately became the director of the West Park Community
Cupboard and continued to help those in need until shortly before her 90th birthday.
Jean (“Puff”, her Girl Scout name) touched the lives of many as Girl Scout Leader for the Lake Erie Girl
Scout Council for almost 35 years. She instilled the values of helping others and being kind to all
people. She loved all her scouts and extended her love of nature and camping to provide activities,
camping and travel experiences. Her Girl Scout songbooks will be fondly remembered by all.
Jean was also an avid reader, stamp collector and enjoyed crocheting slippers, afghans and lap
blankets. She was the recipient of the West Park Citizen of the Year in 1987. Jean was an avid Cleveland Indians fan, not missing a game since the early 30’s.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, May 24, 2018 from 2PM – 4PM in the Chapel at Sunset Memorial Park, 6245 Columbia Rd., North Olmsted, where memorial services will commence on Thursday at 4PM.
