My heart is heavy as I write this, I will miss Joan, at least until we meet again. I recall the first time I met her and said ‘it’s nice to meet you Joan’, where I was quickly corrected with, “its Mrs. Haug”. Always proper and graceful, and quick to instruct. Then I would look at her kids and think, did you raise these people? You realize your 2nd son almost got me killed last night at the Taco Bell, it was like 2am, and the fun turned real scary there for a minute. Also, your 1st son just drove us here by executing a perfect reverse 180 degree turn into the driveway. Oh, and your daughter, yeah, she also just about got me killed the other night, even scarier than the taco bell incident. But, hey, maybe I’m the crazy one here, “Mrs. Haug it is”.
I do know she left her kids with her most indelible traits: work ethic, the ability to tell a good story, kindness, humor, the most down to earth, honest to goodness capacity to laugh souls I have ever met. My friends. Her kindness especially at the holidays is forever treasured. I like to think she is dancing with Barry, and Elvis serenading them right about now. God bless her and us all. She was part of a greater generation. All my love, admiration, and gratitude.
