John B. Anderson's Obituary
John Balfour Anderson III, age 93, passed away peacefully on October 17, 2025. He was born on December 1, 1931, to the late Gertrude and John B. Anderson II.
At just six months old, John moved with his family to Brockville, Ontario, Canada, where he spent 12 formative years. The family cottage on the St. Lawrence River became a cherished place of joy and memory, even after returning to the United States.
On August 4, 1956, John married the love of his life, MondaLee Anderson. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, and service. John deeply loved his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, his family, and his church. He was a joyful singer and found great fulfillment in worship and fellowship. He had a deep appreciation for the craft of carpentry, which was reflected in the thoughtful craftsmanship he poured into his home and church spaces.
John began his career at Republic Steel on January 3, 1954, in the electrical department while attending Baldwin Wallace. His dedication and expertise led to his promotion to Fire Marshall, where he investigated fires and contributed to design work focused on fire protection and safety, particularly in Coke plants. He later became Assistant Director of Safety and Fire Protection, a role he held until retirement. Yet, he often fondly recalled his favorite job as working as a kid at the West Side Market for Wentz Butter, Eggs & Cheese.
John was preceded in death by his beloved wife, MondaLee Anderson, with whom he shared a lifetime of love and partnership. He is survived by his children, Cynthia (Darryl) Archer and David Anderson; grandchildren, Hannah (Ben) Ahrens and John Brian (Daryn) Archer; and great-grandchildren, Elyssia Lozada, Otto Archer, Jesse Archer, and Olivia Ahrens. He also leaves behind his sisters, Dorothy Anderson and Muriel Anderson, and was preceded in death by his sister Shelia Guzowski.
A man of quiet dignity and unwavering values, John was a pillar of strength and wisdom for those who knew him. His father taught him at a young age that his word was his bond, which was something he carried with him throughout his life. His legacy lives on in the lives of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, each of whom carry forward his spirit of kindness, resilience, and grace.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 22, 2025, from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at North Olmsted Evangelical Friends Church, 5665 Great Northern Blvd, North Olmsted, OH 44070.
