John Anthony "Tony" Hart's Obituary
John Anthony (Tony) Hart, a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and all-around amazingly great guy, passed away surrounded by his family. He was married to his beloved wife, Mary Hart, for 59 years. Together, they built a beautiful family that brought them endless joy.
Tony was a devoted father to his six children: Tom Hart (Tammy), Traci Hart, Jennifer Braun (John), G.W. Hart (Laura), Carrie Secrest (Tad), and Heather Powers (Aaron). He was also a proud grandfather to Cayton (Kendal), Landon, Teagan, Asher, Noah, Zac, Eli, Remy, Micah, Stella, Jax, Cordelia, Rory, Amanda, Nathan (Aly), Trypp, and Rosie, and a great-grandfather to Indie.
A passionate educator, Tony dedicated 37 years to teaching in the Cleveland school system, where he left a lasting impact on countless students. After retiring, he enjoyed a second career volunteering as a conductor for the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad, continuing his legacy of service and connection to the community.
In addition to his professional pursuits, Tony spent many years engaged in mission work, participating in Habitat for Humanity trips with his church, as well as working with the Heifer Ranch in Arkansas and the Presbyterian Children’s Home in North Carolina.
Tony was a founding member of the Olmsted Falls Depot and Model Railroad Museum. He built a large, very detailed train layout in his basement that showcased his creativity and love for the hobby.
A true craftsman, Tony ran a remodeling business where he applied his skills and craftsmanship to enhance the homes of many in the community. He was an active and dedicated member of his church, and community and service grounded him in his faith. He loved hanging out at car shows and cheering on his grandkids at countless games and activities, always supporting them with enthusiasm and pride.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Timothy Hart, and is survived by his sister, Barb Sailor, along with many other family members and friends who cherish him dearly.
Tony will always be remembered for his warm spirit, sense of humor, and unwavering love for his family, faith, and community.
Visitation will be held at Sunset Chapel on Sunday, October 27, 2024, from 11:00am -1:00pm. A service will follow the visitation at 1:00pm. The family welcomes all to attend the service and celebrate his life.
