John Hunter's Obituary
John, aged 93 years passed away, peacefully, following a short illness on June 14 2021 at Riverview Pointe Care Centre, Olmsted Falls, Ohio.
John was born in Dunfermline, Scotland, a son to Robert and Isabella with siblings Robert, Isabelle and Janet. He was the sole remaining family member at the time of his passing. Throughout his life the family affectionately called him by the diminutive name Jackie.
A stonemason by trade, and during WW11 a radio operator, John’s main passion was travel. Following many backpacking travels abroad, he emigrated from Scotland to America and made his home in Fairview Park with his (Late) wife May. His brother Robert and sister Isabelle meanwhile settled in Canada.
John was a quiet man who pursued his interests by joining various organisations including the Kiwanis in Cleveland, and Ramblers Association and Scottish Heritage. His passions included poetry by Robert Burns, history, and of course walking and hiking, his favourite place to hike being Cleveland Metroparks. On his many trips home to see family he would stay for a few days then take off to the hills.
Family, friends, especially Rachel and Elsie and neighbours Nicole and her children, will sorely miss John.
Contributed by Isobel McGrory, John’s niece and daughter of Janet.
