It has been almost 6 months since John passed away. I was going to wait to write this after a year but decided to say it now.

Not long after John passed, about a month or so, I heard a small airplane flying over my place here in Oregon. I walked outside and looked up as this small plane was flying circles over my apartment just like John did in Ohio when I was a kid. I watched it flying low and circling 2 times.

Then the most amazing thing happened. I was thinking that sure reminds me of John and the airplane made one last pass straight down my street and the pilot tipped his wings up and down when flying by me. I started waving back and telling my wife John had something to do with that!

I am sorry to hear John passed. John was a father to me for most of my childhood. He was a master at anything he did. I learned from him by watching him work on projects after we had dinner. Thank you for showing me!

I just talked to John last month for an hour on the phone. We talked about his early retirement years. Duke was my German Shepard and became Johns dog and best friend when he retired. John and Duke flew in his airplane, went fishing in his boat and road everywhere John went in the pick up.

One time when they were fishing John set his sandwich down for a second to attend the fishing pole and when he went to get the sandwich it was gone. Duke was peaking out one eye at him pretending he was sleeping.

Duke would sit in the passenger seat and lay his head on Johns shoulder when they drove down the road. I am happy that John had such strong feelings for Duke and he also had Dukes picture on the mantel to see every day. John said he was the best dog ever and I agree.

Thanks for being my step-dad.
