John P. Patton, 96, of Strongsville, passed away Tuesday, March 14, 2017.
Devoted husband for 73 years, of the late Wanda E. Patton; beloved father of Patricia (Art) Gedeon, the late Jack Patton, Tim (Mary Ann) Patton, Jim (Lana) Patton, Nancy Kubilus, Terry Patton, Mary K. Patton, the late Danny Patton and Michael Patton; loving grandfather of Jamie, Mike, Michael, John, Joey, Timmy, Kelly, Sonja, Eli, Damon, Bryan, Lynnie and Terry Ann; caring great grandfather of Ashley, Desiree, Ethan, Anthony, Reagan, Cole, AJ.
John honorably served his country during World War ll under Gen. George S. Patton in the 95th Infantry Division. While in the service he traversed France, Germany, Belgium, Luxembourg and Holland and was awarded a Purple Heart after he was shot three times. He retired from the Cleveland Police Department after 33 years, where he went from Patrolman, Detective Bureau, Vice Squad, Robbery Unit, and then Field Instructor. In his earlier years on the force, john was chosen to walk the beat in one of Cleveland’s most challenging neighborhoods and received three Lifetime Merit Awards. John enjoyed tinkering with cars, Chopping and splitting wood for his Wood burning stove.
Visitations will be held on Thursday, March 23, 2017 from 2-4PM and 6-8PM at the Sunset Chapel 6245 Columbia Rd. North Olmsted, OH 44070, where services will be on Friday at 2PM.
