John Sinka's Obituary
John J. Sinka, age 97 of Cleveland, passed away October 5, 2019. He was born on St. Valentine’s Day 1922 in Ranka, Latvia to the late Janis and Anna; loving husband of Agnes (nee Veiskats); dear father of Nanetta “Missy” (Joel Queen) Sinka, Inese (Steven) Verba, and Rita (George Dolan) Sinka; adored brother of Ida Berzina and 4 deceased brothers; cherished grandfather of Nova Downing, Mandie (Patrick) Mone, Robert Downing and Sarah Verba; great grandfather of Nathan Steelman, Alexis, Joshua and Robert Downing and Noah Mone; uncle of many nieces and nephews in Latvia.
He retired from Sandhu and Associates as a mechanical engineer after many years, working all the way into his 90’s. He was an avid tennis player in which he won many trophies. He loved fishing on his boat in Lake Erie. He also enjoyed gardening and woodworking. He was separated from his family in Latvia during WWII but reunited with them many years later and traveled frequently to see them.
The family will receive family and friends on Thursday, October 17, 2019 from 4-7 PM at the Chapel in Sunset Memorial Park, 6245 Columbia Rd. North Olmsted. The Memorial Service will be held on Friday at 10 AM at the United Latvian Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1385 Andrews Ave. Lakewood 44107.
John will be laid to rest in Latvia at a later date.
